Location: Virtual

We hope you enjoyed PagerDuty Summit 2022! In case you missed the event or would like to re-watch our session:

Zero to unicorn: Building a healthy on-call experience at a hyper growth, remote-first startup

Max Najork, Engineering Manager

The rise in remote-first companies has led engineering teams to become increasingly distributed. With this shift has come challenges in maintaining healthy and effective on-call processes for engineering teams – especially those that are quickly growing. On top of that, the number of alerts engineers are faced with in cloud native environments are on the rise, and engineers are beginning to experience burnout and alert fatigue.

In this session, Max will share real-life examples and lessons learned from his time as an Engineering Manager at Chronosphere, and discuss specific ways in which the on-call process has adapted for a quickly growing, remote-first engineering organization.

Max will also discuss some new ideas – both during and outside work hours – for promoting healthy and resilient engineering teams, leveraging the hive-mind to lead to better outcomes, and addressing the increasing complexity and dynamic nature of a remote-first startup.
