For those attending KubeCon + CloudNativeCon North America 2021 in person, this is likely your first time in nearly two years doing anything of this magnitude on-site. But with health and safety requirements for in-person attendance clearly stated (i.e. mandatory vaccines and masks), and with pre-show activities in full swing, heading to KubeCon October 11-15 honestly feels kind of somewhat normalish.

Meanwhile, for those approximately 15,000 virtual attendees, online events are pretty polished by now. You won’t be able to physically swag-search KubeCon booths like the old days, but you’ll be able to learn the latest about cloud native technology from the comfort of your home office. Following the model from last May’s KubeCon + CloudNativeCon EU 2021, online attendees will be able to use the web-based event platform, MeetingPlay, for 24-hour access to virtual experiences such as:

  • Sessions with live speakers.
  • The ‘hallway track’ where you can collaborate via topic-based networking spaces with group and 1:1 chat with other participants.
  • Games lounge and virtual game night.
  • Zoom happy hours and an AMA (ask me anything) “coffee klatsch” led by CNCF General Manager, Priyanka Sharma.
  • Peer-group mentoring.

Packed with sessions

When the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) shared the final KubeCon + CloudNativeCon North America 2021 schedule back in August, it laid out a few fun facts about what to expect:

  • There will be over 230 sessions, including keynotes and breakouts.
  • There will be over 70 presentations hosted by project maintainers.
  • A program committee of 104 experts and 30 track chairs reviewed 976 submissions under the leadership of three conference co-chairs: Splunk’s Constance Caramanolis, Cisco’s Stephen Augustus, and Twitter’s Jasmine James.
  • Discussions about CNCF’s hosted projects.
  • Several co-located events (we’re most excited about PromCon and FluentCon).

The anticipated KubeCon 21 buzz

Themes we are expecting to see this year run the gamut. Look out for activity around hot topics like:

Keynotes galore

Of course everyone loves conference keynotes, which kick off Wednesday Oct 13 at 9am and run in 15-minute increments. Opening remarks start with CNCF General Manager, Priyanka Sharma, and wrap up with remarks from the three conference co-chairs mentioned above.

You can find all things keynotes here. But of course there’s much more to peruse and schedule, given CNCF’s commitment to put on a conference that has content for everyone interested in cloud native technology, “from non-technical and end user case studies to advanced engineering deep dives.”
